Inked: What was your first tattoo and do you still have it?
Sophia Stace: My first ever tattoo was a tattoo of Bambi eight years ago and I still have it! I was such a huge fan of Disney growing up, and still am today.
Who would you most like to be photographed by? Well, I would’ve said Christian Saint, but I just shot with him in New York a couple of months back for his next book – a sequel to “Tattoo Super Models”. It was such an incredible shoot it’s going to be really hard to top it! My absolute dream photographer would have to be Annie Lebovitz. Her work has such an elegant quality to it and her ability to capture emotion in a photograph is second to none.
Who is the person you most look up to and why? Okay, probably a little bit cheesy, but it is definitely my Mum! We both work together in Cosmetic Tattoo Artistry, so it’s probably a good thing we have such a great relationship because tattooing people’s faces can be pretty stressful.
She is insanely talented, and has worked so, so hard to get where she is. She has a heart of gold and a very strong business ethic, which I really admire.
… And she doesn’t tell me off too badly when she catches me looking at funny dog photos at work.
What’s your favourite piece of clothing? I would say it’s a toss up between my gunmetal Louis Vuitton handbag, or unquestionably the best shoes of all time; my Star Wars shoes. Well, specifically the pair that has light sabres for heels, which light up and make noises when I walk, anyway.
If you could interview anyone (dead or alive) who would you choose? Why? I wish I could interview Audrey Hepburn! Though she is mostly admired for being an iconic actress and fashion figure during Hollywood’s Golden Age, she was also a humanitarian, and towards the end of her career she devoted the rest her life to helping other people in third world countries. I think that she is truly incredible.
I’d also love to interview Tom Hardy, but it would probably be the worst interview of all time, featuring such questions as, “Can I pat your dog?” “Would you like to go on a date with me?” and, “Can you please answer all my questions in your Bane voice for the rest of this interview?”
Black & grey or colour? My personal preference is colour. I love soft, pretty pastel coloured tattoos on myself. I have seen some absolutely incredible grayscale work on other people, but I will always be team colour with my own tattoo choices!
Which tattooist is on your dream list? Nikko Hurtado. Hands down, no contest! My favourite style of tattoo art is portraiture and realism, and he is mind-blowingly brilliant at it.
What was the first thing you said when you found out you were top 10? I don’t think I said anything particularly comprehensible, it was mostly a bunch of squealing noises, jumping up and down, and flailing my arms around like a lunatic.
